Iran: Arghavan Fallahi Sentenced to Death

1 July 2026 | Women’s Rights · Political Prisoners · Death Penalty

Arghavan Fallahi, Iranian human rights activist.

The 25-year-old human rights activist was sentenced to death following a politically motivated trial.

A Politically Motivated Death Sentence

Arghavan Fallahi has been held in Evin Prison since January 2025.

Following her arrest, she was detained incommunicado for several months. According to reports, she was subjected to severe torture and pressured into making forced confessions.

She had previously been imprisoned between 2022 and 2024 because of her human rights work.

Her family has also faced state persecution for several years. Her father is currently serving a multi-year prison sentence in Evin Prison.

An Attack on Fundamental Human Rights

The case is representative of the increasing repression of women, human rights defenders, and political prisoners in Iran.

Imposing the death penalty following an unfair trial, together with reports of torture and forced confessions, violates fundamental human rights.
